10 Yr Old Eunice Akoth at The Women In The World Summit with “My Dream” Speech

I have been blown away this Sunday evening by a 10 year old Eunice Akoth. Eunice performs a speech she wrote called “My Dream” at The Women In The World Summit and I am in awe of her presence and ability to captivate a crowd at such a young age. Eunice is a sixth-grader at Kibera’s all-girls school in Nairobi, Kenya. The all girls school is the first of its kind, co-founded by Kennedy Odede and Jessica Posner Odede. The husband and wife team accompanied Akoth to the Summit. The 2015 Women In The World Summit, Lincoln Center, New York City; 4/24/2015

During the performance we see Eunice cry as she delivers her words with passion. Even with tears running down her right cheek she remains both poised and charismatic with no signs of struggle enunciating her words. Following her speech, the panel asks a few questions and one questions Eunice’s reason for writing the speech. Eunice responds:

“Most of the kids in Kibera are raped, some are neglected by their parents, some are homeless,” she said, fighting back tears after the performance. “Most of them have dreams, but they don’t know how they can achieve them, so I had to write a poem that tells them that they can achieve their dreams.”

I won’t say much but there’s something about this melanin. Eunice is a 10 year old African girl and she is brilliant. From her interview I can tell you now she will be a voice and an activating force in helping change the condition of the motherland. You go baby! Check out her performance and full interview below:

New Music: 2Deep – Same Love

2deepsameloveMy heart just got really warm. Today Louisville hip-hop group 2Deep brings us new music with “Same Love”. Its so refreshing to see two brothers married with kids and making music about it! Same Love is a song about the love of having a kid and the joy of being a father. In the single art we see 2Deep’s Tez and S.G. Smitty together with their kids. I’m listening to the vocals on the RnB hook and I’m looking for the name of the feature – there isn’t one. Tez is singing his ass off in this one! Of course he gives us a 16 as well as Smitty. I had to listen to the song four times before I could move along in my soundcloud playlist. Its that good. Its that powerful and it’s well needed in Hip-Hop especially in their hometown of Louisville, KY where most rappers just talk about turning up, bang bang shoot em down. I love the diversity. Big ups and thanks to 2Deep for making such a beautiful song. I hope you enjoy this melanin:

“The coolest muthafunkas on the planet.” Also known by ACU, the Louisville, KY Hip-Hop trio has apparently come to fuck shit up – and with no mercy. This past Thursday ACU headlined The Vibe Open Mic in Louisville and I had a front row seat to a hell of a performance. Not only is their music dope but they have the stage presence to back it up. They found a way to turn all the way up in the sexy scenery that is the front bar of the Cure Lounge. It was done with style and grace. The fellas really feed off of each other’s energy and coordinate well together on stage, involve the crowd, and remain very animated during their entire set. Their sound is new and fresh. According to the group their sound is:

“A dynamic hybrid of Hip-Hop sounds fused with a Soul influence and rock elements.”

1395113_761223530558804_348669843_nThe trippy trio formed the group in their hometown of Louisville, KY with aspirations of innovating the current state of Rap music. The ACU members include Young Wop, Jesus Phelps, and Sketch who have one goal, and that’s to dominate your iTunes playlist! I believe in the next few years, they will do just that. We don’t have many hip-hop groups left. Every emcee has an ego too big to collaborate with other artist on a consistent basis. So, ACU will be in a lane of their own. They are Outkast meets Taylor Gang. A good mix of southern and west coast vibes and sounds. Check out a good example of this mix below with the AC Unit’s single “Take Another One”. But first check out the exclusive BTS video:

New Music: Fashawn – Higher ft. Exile (Official Video)

Fashawn bring us a visual today for his new single “Higher” ft. Exile that is featured on his new album “The Ecology“. In the beginning of the video we see Fashawn on stage before he performs the song live and he tells the audience that the song is dedicated to his daughter and much of the video we see him with his little girl Hannah in a field of green grass with yellow balloons and butterflies. To me it sounds as if Fashawn is telling us of his struggle with being on the road and taking on the new fame while trying to manage being a good father. Its clear what is most important to him. But he knows he must get higher in order to take care of that. WE together must get “Higher” for our little ones. If you believe it, you can achieve it. If you go for it, he’ll show for it. When asked about the new visial, According to Fashawn:

“The video brings the song to life in an organic and beautiful way. There isn’t enough positive images of young black men out there being fathers to their kids to begin with, especially in rap videos. I believe it’s a break from the norm and a side of me of that my audience doesn’t get to see everyday.”

I hope you all enjoy. Let’s Love, unite, and RISE.

Meet D-Twizt Twizted

11046976_910730442326382_338176717107429282_nWhile listening to the intro of D-Twizt Twizted’s latest project “Jinchuriki Leo’s Pride (EP)” I said to myself, this cat is on to something. Here it is 2015 and it’s like I’m listening to a project released in 1985. The kid has an old soul. Twizt sounds like classic hip-hop music with a sprinkle of reggae. If you were into The Beastie Boys or Run DMC you’ll appreciate this music. This week he has been featured as the Maxwell Sounds Sounds of The Week artist. Check out his interview with Louisville’s own DJ Bombshell here:

Also be sure to check out the 7 track EP “Jinchuriki Leo’s Pride” below:

New Music: King Los – WAR ft. Marsha Ambrosius

4265_artworks_000072678414_qcyc9r_t500x500.lgBaltimore, Maryland native and former Bad Boy Records artist King Los releases new music today with “WAR” ft. Marsha Ambrosius. The track is co-produced by Da Internz and Anamoly. Los explains to us that there is a war going on that doesn’t involve bombs or helicopters, but the soul. He proceeds to tell a story about the day to day struggles of being a black man from the streets, in the hood, with a baby mama, involved in drugs and violence. A struggle most of our men know all too well. Los talks about how the world is too cold therefore no one cares about this “WAR” – not even the soldiers in it. He urges us to believe in God, and make love not “WAR”.

New Music: Bryson Tiller – “Ease” feat. WunTayk Timmy and “Been That Way”

Bryson-Tiller

They’re baaackkk! This makes me smile. Louisville’s own Bryson Tiller releases two dope new singles today. One features WunTayk Timmy who just released new single “Run Run” yesterday. Check that out here. “Ease” is produced by Syk Sense. I have been waiting some time for my favs to come back together especially since the recent success of Bryson Tiller. They put on for the Ville strong in this one. Lets take a look at some lyrics from the hook:

“Please, boy I said I do this shit with ease.

Too trill, riding through Louisville streets.

Hottest thing from it since Muhammad Ali.

Gotta keep on coming, who fell off? Not ME.”

As a Louisville native and artist myself I have had the opportunity to work with Bryson and Mr. WunTayk and I must say this is nothing new. These guys been doing this for a long time. The city possesses plenty of worldly talented people with this melanin especially within its Hip-Hop scene.

New Music: WunTayk Timmy – Run Run

runrun

From MVP, to Phresh, to WunTayk Timmy – this young man has grown tremendously as an artist over the last 5 years that I have had the opportunity to follow his movement and I am honored to present to you what is in my opinion his best work yet. WunTayk Timmy urges us to “show these motherfuckers we aint runnin no more”. According to Tim:

I am in NO way promoting violence or attacks on any police or government force. I am in EVERY way promoting equality, holding every individual responsible for their actions, and the PRESERVATION OF BLACK LIVES!

We know whats up though Mr. WunTayk, we hear you loud and clear. “Run Run” is one of the most profound songs I have heard related to the police’s recent publicized killings of black men and women. I would post some of my favorites quotes from the record but their are way too many so i’ll let you listen for yourself.

Revamped at The Cure Lounge

rewind

Fire. Passion. Insanity. Energetic. Madness. Need I go on? I Am Royalty Presents Revamped was ahhhmazzingg. Every artist was at the top of their game. If you missed it, my question is why? A room full with some of Louisville’s best local hip hop artists at one time?! I’m still feeling hyped.

Let’s rewind.

The support and love was in full effect at the Cure Lounge Saturday night. However, there were only 10 performers instead of the original lineup of 13. This was also the same night as Thunder Over Louisville, and while a larger crowd was expected, numbers didn’t matter in the end. We still had a good time. There was even another event happening at the same time, in the same building. But you wouldn’t even known it, the way Revamped smashed.

Looking around at all of the members of the Royalty music team, I saw some artists I…
